Gender And Discourse: A Study Of Women’s Image And Consciousness In Chinese Women’s Documentary Films

As one of the types of mass media,Documentary film plays a vital role in the portrayal of characters and the dissemination of female consciousness with its unique narrative discourse.In a society dominated by male discourse,it is difficult for women to build their own discourse power.The Women’s documentary films with female narrators as the centre breaks the myth of male as the main body in traditional culture,master and build a certain discourse power,and reveal the real situation of women from an equal perspective.At the same time,they outline female images and write female consciousness giving the works with a new vision and concern.This thesis mainly analyses the female image and female consciousness written at the story and discourse level by combing out the development of Chinese Women’s documentary films,and clarifies the ideology contained in them.Taking my original work “Answer” as a case,it provides theoretical significance and practical reference value for Chinese Women’s documentary films to better promote female consciousness and female value.This article is mainly divided into five chapters.First of all,define and elaborate the relevant theoretical foundations of feminism,narrative theory and other related concepts such as female documentary films,female image,and female consciousness.Secondly,through the text analysis method,the social and cultural context of shaping the female image in the female documentary is interpreted,and the current diversified trend of female image shaping and its relationship with social reality is expounded.The third chapter focuses on how excellent Women’s documentary films complete the presentation of female consciousness with different narrators,narrative perspectives and narrative spaces.In the fourth chapter,the graduation work “Answer” is taken as the practical text,and through the combination of relevant theory and practice,it provides practical experience for the creation of Women’s documentary films.The concluding part provides relevant measures for the future development of Chinese Women’s Documentary films.
