On How The Four Masters In Song Dynasty Accepted The Cursive Art Of Zhang Xu And Huai Su

From the history of cursive script in China,Zhang Xu and Huai Su developed cursive script on the basis of cursive script in Wei and Jin Dynasties,reaching the peak of the development of cursive script in Tang Dynasty.They led the style of cursive script in the middle and late Tang Dynasty.Until the Song Dynasty,the wild cursive script style still caused a huge noise.In the Song Dynasty,especially in the middle and late Northern Song Dynasty,the wild cursive style represented by Zhang Xu and Huai Su caused extensive discussions among the Song people.On the one hand,the Song people tried their best to restore the orthodox "six arts" status of calligraphy art,on the other hand,they drew the calligraphy art closer to their personal interests.Compared with the traditional standard of emphasizing " Wang Xi zhi and his son " in calligraphy art,the cursive script of Zhang Xu and Huai Su is not an alternative choice.In the Four Masters in Song Dynasty,Cai Xiang aimed to restore the calligraphy regulations while practicing innovation in his whole life.In his later years,he learned roughly the cursive spirit of Zhang Xu and Huai Su,which was in line with his own pursuit of calligraphy,and relaxed in the regulations;Su Shi was not good at cursive script,but he learned the true meaning of calligraphy from Zhang Xu and Huai Su's cursive script and critically accepted Zhang Xu and Huai Su;Huang Tingjian gradually understood the meaning of Zhang Xu and Huai Su's calligraphy and interpreted cursive calligraphy,which made cursive calligraphy reach its peak in the Song Dynasty;Mi Fu devoted most of his life to reviving the style of calligraphy in Wei and Jin Dynasties,ridiculing Zhang Xu and Huai Su for breaking the ancient laws,but he was still learning wild cursive and strange.From the perspective of cursive script,Cai Xiang's calligraphy takes its meaning,Su Shi's calligraphy takes its potential,Huang Tingjian's calligraphy takes its spirit,and Mi Fu's calligraphy takes its ease.After the Northern Song Dynasty,the cursive script of Zhang Xu and Huai Su was far away.The cursive script of the Song people only had its local characteristics.
