This research is aimed at discussing the controversial poem selection issue in Sui Yuan Essay on Poetry and the internal relation between the poetics of Confucius held by Yuan Mei to sort out the poetics of Confucius absorbed and transformed by Yuan Mei,combining with the actual situation of poems selected in Sui Yuan Essay on Poetry,it will find out the potential thoughts of Yuan Mei's standard of selecting poems,and then explore the deep contradiction between the poem selection and poem evaluation of Yuan Mei.The first chapter of this paper,based on the text,clarifies Yuan Mei's understanding of Confucius' opinions on the Book of Songs in his works.On the one hand,it is to outline the changes in the connotation of the important categories of Confucian poetics,including "pure thinking ","enlightening,observing,harmonizing,and criticizing" and "tender and gentle ",in Yuan Mei's citation.On the other hand,it examines the limitations and supports of these categories on Yuan Mei's poetics.The second chapter analyzes the aesthetic dissimilation in the poetry selection in Suiyuan Essay on Poetry by referring to Confucius' opinions on the Book of Songs absorbed and used by Yuan Mei.In the third chapter,based on the specific situation of poetry selection in Suiyuan Essay on Poetry,it discusses the essential significance of the classics of the Book of Songs having a negative impact on Yuan Mei's criticism standard and studies the disorder of the poetic system and the growth of Suiyuan Essay on Poetry text,which can cover the revised xingling theory.
