The teaching of Chinese as a foreign language needs to combine language training with cultural learning at this stage.The Analects of Confucius is a classic of Chinese culture,whose sentence structure is short,easy to read and understand.Besides,it helps students grow up and develop.Therefore,this study will introduce it into the Chinese teaching in Chinese schools in Cambodia.In this study,a questionnaire survey was conducted to determine the possibility of teaching at first.The survey selected middle school students from five Chinese schools in Phnom Penh as subjects to find out whether they were influenced by Chinese culture in their study life and growth,as well as their understanding and interest in the Analects of Confucius.The results show that the experiment is feasible as long as the appropriate content and teaching methods are used.This study focuses on teaching materials and teaching methods.As for the teaching materials,25 quotations are selected from the Analects of Confucius as the teaching content,which is divided into three parts including personal quality and development,human relationship emotion and community harmony.According to the school conditions,three types of teaching plans are designed:(1)memorizing short and acceptable quotations of the Analects of Confucius;(2)infiltrating the thought of the Analects of Confucius in the text teaching and reading;(3)culturaledification of the Analects of Confucius in extracurricular activities.This study is the first time to carry out systematic teaching of the Analects of Confucius in Chinese schools in Cambodia,compile the corresponding reading books of the Analects of Confucius,and design the teaching plans of the Analects of Confucius combining with local teaching materials and student activities.In this way,it provides an example of the combination of language training and cultural learning in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Many problems have been noticed in the process of this research and teaching practice.We should pay more attention to the cultural problems in language learning and fully understand the modern significance of the Analects of Confucius.
