We investigated students, parents, teachers and principals of four Chinese schools in Southeast Asia and Europe.Questionnaires are set up to gather information about the current situations and demands of Chinese extracurricular reading of students in oversea Chinese schools, find out the existing problems, and put forward suggestions to promote students' Chinese extracurricular reading. The main contents of the paper include the current reading situations and reading needs of students, the attitude of parents, teachers and principals in Chinese extracurricular reading, and the resources that oversea Chinese schools can provide for students in extracurricular reading. The results of reading situation investigation show that: the overall situation of students' extracurricular reading is not good;parents and teachers' practical actions to support students' extracurricular reading are slightly insufficient;oversea Chinese schools lack book resources and a suitable reading environment. The results of the reading demand survey show that: there are obvious regional differences in the demand for reading content. The highest demand for reading content among European students is "Chinese learning" while the highest demand among Southeast Asian students is "history and culture" which is the negative demand of European students, the highest overall demands is "interesting stories";the highest demand for reading conditions is "bright, quiet and comfortable reading environment";the demand for the format of reading materials is mainly "pinyin, annotation, and translation of key and difficult words".At the end of the paper, combined with the feedback of parents, teachers and principals, the author further puts forward specific suggestions in three aspects: increasing the amount of students' extracurricular reading, the construction of the school library and the development and utilization of extracurricular reading materials.
