Du Runsheng, father of Chinese rural reform, believed the land reform helped farmers gain their land and the communist party win support of farmers. As a great historical victory of Chinese communist party, the land reform radically eliminated the feudal land tenure of landlords which lasted for more than 2 thousand years, and thus realized land ownership favoring farmers. However,Xinjiang is an area with multiple ethnic groups. Before liberation,Xinjiang was characterized by closed natural economic status, suffering very lower production level. In history, ethnic groups in Xinjiang were hostile to each other under influence of Islam and Lamaism. This made ethnic relationships in Xinjiang become more complicated. In addition, the communist party had little contact with local people just after liberation. Thus, the land record at that time witnessed numerous challenges. In such complicated conditions, the communist party was confronted with a major problem of how to get in contact with ethnic cohabitation areas and how to carry out land reform without causing social disorder and ethnic revenge killing.Local farmers had no ethnic awareness, class awareness,or even national awareness.Smooth implementation of the land reform, relative social stability, and union of arms of ethnic groups mainly relied on farmers' initiatives, balance of benefits of various parties, feelings of ethnic groups, and class awareness of ethnic groups. This thesis explored how the land reform,as a necessary task and a medium of national solidarity, won the party support of local people. This thesis also offered theoretical and institutional support to later policy implementation of the communist party in ethnic cohabitation areas. From the perspective of ethnic revenge killing caused by the revolution in mountainous areas, this thesis researched how the land reform broke the ice of ethnic relationships and united all ethnic groups. The author believed common work promoted mutual understanding, common fighting aroused mutual sympathy, and common tasks provoked mutual recognition. Therefore, the reason why the land reform could promote ethnic solidarity was actually closed related to ethnic cohabitation status in the history, favorable ethnic policies of the communist party, and particularly the penetration of class awareness.
