A Study On The Changes Of The Life Style Of New City Dwellers From Urbanization And Governance Of These Communities

With the advance of the urbanization process,the suburbs of Shanghai began to form new-type communities in recent years due to the people-centered government projects.They are different from the urban communities.In fact,the government makes a requisition of rural land from the villagers to meet the needs of urban construction and development.Therefore,villagers affected by urbanization moved into new communities established by the government in urban area,which we call the "new city dwellers" community.This paper tries to put forward the research on the change of the life style of these new city dwellers from urbanization and governance of these new-type communities.In observation of the large-scale residential community in East Nanqiao in Fengxian District,Shanghai,this paper will discuss the trend of people's life style and community governance during the process of urbanization and the deficiency in practice of this new-type community governance.Based on the theory of community governance and "good governance",this paper will carry out a decent analysis regarding the changes of new urban dwellers' life style,combined with discussion of relevant theories,actual visit,and surveys,to explore the more optimized path for governance of these new-type communities generated from the process of urbanization.The study shows that there are problems between the residents and the government,between the community organizations,and between the identity of residents as part of the community and the identity of each individual resident in the process of community governance.The problems include lack of the appropriate planning for public construction,role dislocation of the community committee,inharmonious relationship among community organizations,weak neighborhood relationship,weak public awareness,lack of civilized habits,etc.The main causes of these problems are the political,economic,social and psychological factors brought by the transformation of the new city dwellers' lifestyles,including policy and historical reasons,inefficient governance,unclear community system,to-be-changed identity of the new city dwellers.And the ways to solve these problems and strategies are to improve the institutional mechanisms and approaches of community governance,so that the community structure and residents' self-governance will develop better through the rationalization of institutional relations and increase of the financial support.In addition,there are ways to explore new methods for community governance through cultivation of public welfare,development of service-oriented social organizations,etc.It is hoped that the research of this paper can provide some innovative ideas for the future academic research and practice,and also provide ideas for the optimization of community governance in the large-scale residential communities of East Nanqiao in Fengxian Disrict,Shanghai.
