On Nussbaum's Capabilities Approach And Aristotle's Thought

Nussbaum's capabilities approach,taking human dignity as the logical starting point and the human core capabilities list as its basic connotation,is based on intuitional ethical judgments and abstract philosophical proofs,so it provides a basic threshold for the good life of human beings.The government has provided theoretic direction to promote the dignity of the people.From the perspective of the theoretical pedigree,Nussbaum's capabilities approach has a profound Aristotle's ideological foundation.Aristotle's philosophy of nature,the concept of humanity,the idea of division of capabilities,the idea of political distribution,and the concept of education,constitute the theoretical cornerstone of Nussbaum's capabilities approach.Nussbaum's capabilities approach has expanded the interpretation and imaginative integration of Aristotle's ideas,and she has also been constructively reconstructed based on more open theoretical resources.The article contains three parts:the introduction,the main text and the conclusion.The text is divided into three chapters.The specific content includes:The first chapter mainly discusses the basic theoretical problems of Nussbaum's capabilities approach.From the basic connotation,the logical starting point and the theoretical verification,the construction process of Nussbaum's capabilities approach is laid,which provides the foundation for the post-research about relationship between capabilities approach and Aristotle's ideology.The second chapter introduces Aristotle's ideological sources in the capabilities approach comprehensively,from five different aspects:Aristotle's concept of nature,the view of human nature,the idea about capabilities division,the concept of political distribution,and the concept of education.Aristotle used the concept of nature from both political and ethical perspectives,inspiring Nussbaum to think about "human nature" from different perspectives.Combining with Aristotle's "concept of human nature",the capabilities approach considers that human beings have animal nature and vulnerability at the first natural level,practical rationality at the second natural level,and pursued good human life by practical reason.Aristotle believes that the goal of political distribution is to allocate living conditions to city-state citizens so as to ensure that people can make choices and live a good life.The political distribution in the capabilities approach is equally important,because it's an important means for the government to ensure citizens access to capabilities ability.In the end,Aristotle's education concept guides the capabilities approach to focus the important role that education plays in fostering citizenship.The third chapter expounds Nussbaum's capabilities approach to the expansion and reconstruction of Aristotle's thought.Capabilities approach theoretically imagining and integrating Aristotle's ideas is a manifestation of the expansion.In addition,it extends the extension of many concepts in Aristotle's thought.The transition from Aristotelianism to political liberalism and the introduction of the human rights doctrine and the concept of equality to the capabilities approach,reflects the further development and improvement of Nussbaum's capabilities approach based on Aristotle's thought.
