China has entered an aging society, and the burden on old-age care has become increasingly heavy. However, the miniaturization of family size has challenged the traditional model of old-age care for families, and its pension function has become increasingly fragile. Thanks to the improvement of economic conditions and the enrichment of economic support measures, the economic and material support of the elderly is minimally affected by the aging and degenerative family structure, while the spiritual and daily affairs receive much less support. The more attention is paid to the mental health of the elderly, the research on the psychological sta tus of the elderly has become important for the aging social countries and has practical significance.Based on the CLHLS data from 2011 and 2014,the paper studies the influence of children's intergenerational support on mental health of older people through the Ologit model from the perspective of analysis of urban-rural differences, and explore the regulatory effect of residential pattern on the relationship between intergenerational support and mental health of the elderly. The results show that the economic support of children has a significant negative impact on the mental health of the elderly, and the adequacy of financial support and the impact of the care of children on their mental health are positive. The impact of intergenerational support on mental health of the elderly shows a certain difference between urban and rural samples: The economic support of children has no significant effect on the mental health of the rural elderly, but it has a significant negative impact on urban samples.“Life Care” and “Seeking Help” have a significant positive impact on the urban elderly population, and have no significant effect on the mental health of the urban elderly population.Residential pattern only regulates the relationship between intergenerational support and the life satisfaction of the elderly. When the elderly live with other family members or live alone, the degree of economic support is more influential to life satisfaction. When living with other family members, the care provided by the children has a weaker effect on the life satisfaction of the elderly. When seniors live with other family members, the “seeking for help” variable has a greater impact on the life satisfaction of older people. The Residential pattern does not affect the relationship between generational spiritual comfort and life satisfaction of the elderly in the city. Its moderating effect exists only in rural samples.
