In the second half of 1970s,an ideological trend of anti-totalitarianism flourished in French intellectual circles, amid which Lefort was one of the pioneers. From the end of World War II to the mid-1970s,Lefort got energetically involved in various social activities, and thus he continually deepened his comprehension of Communism and Marxism, which led to his outshining all the other intellectuals.Since the late 1970s and early 1980s,Lefort dedicated himself much more to academic research.Through the analysis of the drawbacks of totalitarianism,Lefort developed a unique interpretation of democracy upon the human rights and the relationship of state-society.The aim of this study is to illustrate the dynamic change of Claude Lefort's political thoughts from the historical perspective, and especially to analyze his theories of anti-totalitarianism and democracy.
