Research On The Reform Of Prisoners Of The Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region

From September 1937 to January 1950,inheriting the penal system of the Soviet District in the Land Revolution period,the jailhouses of Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region performed a series of educational activities for prisoners,including politics,culture,labor,prison office,prisoner autonomy,and democratic evaluation.According to the different types of the prisoners' occupations,crimes,and prison terms,the reform mainly focused on prisoners' shortcomings,such as lack of awareness of reform,frequent anti-reform violations,hooliganism,serious illness,and long-term imprisonment.At the time,in order to affecting the prisoners,they was treated with respect and regarded as people.The prison staff helped them in recognizing crimes,correcting mistakes,raising political awareness,mastering cultural knowledge,cultivating good working habits,and forming correct outlooks on life,values,and world views.These activities ensured the life of prisoners after their release,promoted economic development and maintained social stability in the border region.The prisoner reform in the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region is a great practice and exploration.It has accumulated valuable experiences in prisoner reform.Due to the limitations of historical conditions and staff's understanding,there were many deficiencies in the practice,but important inspiration was left for us to build a socialist harmonious society today.
