Lack of universal health insurance coverage has been one of the most troublesome problems for the United States in the past century.Numerous scholars are greatly intrigued by the circuitous and bumpy road toward American universal health insurance, and brilliant research outcomes have been yielded.A considerable number of them hold the view that patchwork political system, partisanship, and political polarization lead the arduous way to universal health insurance. However, only a few of researches touch the influence of interest group games in the process of healthcare reform.Actually, some powerful and influential interest groups always stand on the anti-reform side, using their resources to play inside and outside games with the government, which have caused every attempt to expand health insurance coverage suffering political deadlock, interest compromise, even abortion. The survival of ObamaCare is indeed a political miracle to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable patient-centered care. Therefore, this thesis takes ObamaCare as a typical case to analyze how President Obama successfully balanced the various interest conflicts, broke the deadlock of American healthcare reform and passed the law.The finding of this research is that the passage of American health policy is the result of the game between the government and interest groups,so gaining the support of interest groups, changing their allocation of resources, and implementing fiscal subsidy reform are effective to reduce the barriers to reform and achieve a balanced policy in the game process. This research is the very first endeavor to analyze the influence of the interest group games on health policy and highlight their importance in American universal health insurance coverage as well as enrich research achievements on healthcare reforms and American politics.
