There are tremendous pressures from an aging of the population in China, especially in rural areas.Family based old-age support will still be the main force to provide for the aged in rural for the foreseeable future. With the changes of social structure and family structure, the problem of elder care in rural begins to turn to the daughter, the non-institutional subject of traditional supports. So there is an improve of daughters' supports' instrumental significance. However, gender differences in family supports practice have always existed. The daughter has not become the same support subject as the son and still face various formal and informal institutional barriers. Therefore, studying the institutional barriers and solutions of daughters' supports can help promote the development of daughters' supports for the elderly parents, promote the construction of a new equal gender system, and the study is of great significance for solving the problem of family supports and the construction of rural old-age security system. On the basis of field research, this study mainly uses the social gender theory to analyze and discuss the institutional barriers through participant observation and depth interviews. Then the study explores the institutional barriers in the horizontal and vertical dimensions, propose corresponding countermeasures and suggestions after understanding the status and characteristics of daughters' supports practice in rural. It is found though field research that children' right to inherit property is not equal to their duty to support parents in the families with sons and daughters, there is an obvious gender preference in the distribution of land resources.Daughters' support is a tool choice in the instrumental significance. While in the families with only daughters, their behavioral strategies to seek supports for the elderly parents have significant regional differences, and daughters' supports also present low-level identity. In the horizontal dimension, the barriers to rural daughters' supports practice are mainly the gender-based property inheritance, the gender difference in land distribution, and the traditional preference of marriage mode;In the vertical dimension, they are mainly the separation of names and realities between the community, family and individual levels. The ideal subjects of old-age care in the community are still sons, they does not agree with the subject status of the daughters' supports. In the context of the ill-governance of the ethics, the folks of the township regulations lose the social foundation that restricts the sons' supports. What's more, there is also separation of names and realities, powers and responsibilities between the daughters' supports and sons' supports in the ritual process. In addition, from the perspective of intergenerational exchange,The daughters of poor families are more inclined to support the elderly than their sons.Divorced women are more likely to return to their native family communities to provide endowment support if they have a common need with their parents. In order to resolve these problems,it is suggested to improve the gender degree of social policies, pay attention to the equivalence of family inter-generational rights and obligations, and build a new support culture with equal gender equality to shape a more reasonable family support order.
