City Settlement Threshold And Migrant's Entrepreneurial Choice

As China has stepped into the era of "new normal",another new round of economic transition is imminent.The power of economic growth switches from elements to innovation,and innovation and entrepreneurship are becoming the attention of the whole society.On the other hand,since reform and opening up,the scale of floating population has been enlarging,which plays an important role in the development of society and economy.Guiding and helping floating population to start business not only could solve the employing problem of themselves,but also could create more job opportunities.,which is an effective way to rehabilitate labor and maintain society stability.And also,it could help increase the region financial strength and improve the level of economic development.The existing studies show that entrepreneur is beneficial for promoting the increasement of economy.And the inclination of entrepreneur among floating population is significantly stronger than that of local residents.For that,many scholars study factors which influence the entrepreneur-related choices of floating population from many perspectives and come to rich conclusions.For one thing,previous studies tend to put less attention into an important variate,household registration,which is an important basic society system for the development of society and economy.And,immigration policy of large city reflects the core of household registration.Therefore,the paper is going to make settlement threshold of 37 large and medium size cities as the main explaining variates to explore the relationship between settlement threshold and choice of entrepreneur of floating population.By the way of empirical analysis,the paper draws the following conclusions:(1)the settlement threshold of city is negative related to the entrepreneurship of floating population.It is estimated that the probability of entrepreneur of floating population would go down by 2.2%if the index of settlement threshold increase 1.The conclusion is proved further after the robustness tests of agent variant and instrument variant;(2)For the difference inside samples,the suppression effect of settlement threshold for necessity entrepreneurship is larger than that for opportunity entrepreneur,and the suppression effect for non-farmer and high-salary population is larger than that for farmer and low-salary population.But,there is no significant difference between high degree of education and low degree of education;(3)In terms of action mechanism,with the improvement of settlement threshold,the sense of belonging and recognition of floating population for inflow areas would decline gradually,and the social security level they receive is degrading.However,the living costs in local areas would increase.The settlement threshold could suppress the behave of entrepreneurship of floating population in terms of social integration,social security and economic cost.The paper fills up and riches the study about choice of entrepreneurship of floating population further.In theory,the paper is beneficial to explore the influence degree and functioning mechanism between city settlement threshold and entrepreneurship of floating population.And more,the paper is helpful for the adjustment of household registration policy,city public service policy and floating population policy.The conclusion of the paper could provide suggestions for the China's transition and development of economy.
