With the historic change of urban and rural structure in China, the number of floating population is increasing rapidly and the urbanization process is accelerating. However, spatial urbanization does not produce population urbanization.Although the vast majority of farmers "wash their feet ashore",it is difficult to "settle down in the city".In today's new urbanization,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to explore the impact of social and economic status on the choice of settlements for floating population,to safeguard the rights and interests of floating population groups,to clarify the way forward for future urbanization and to promote the development of new urbanization.Based on population migration theory, social network theory and social capital theory, this paper uses the 2016 China Labor Force Dynamic Survey(CLDS)data and Stata 14.0 statistical software to process the data.Through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multiple logit model regression analysis, this paper studies the impact mechanism of social and economic status on the settlement choice of floating population. This paper takes the floating population as the object of study, takes its settlement choice as the foothold, takes the individual's social and economic status as the explanatory variable, and chooses the individual characteristic variable as the control variable to carry on the empirical research. The heterogeneity analysis was also used to examine the differences in the choice of settlements among different migrants. The conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)Social and economic status has a significant impact on the choice of settlements for the floating population.Among them,"rural home" or "small and medium-sized cities" are the choice of settlements for the majority of migrants, and the proportion of migrants who choose big cities is relatively small.(2)The income and expenditure of the floating population are the key factors affecting their choice of settlements, and the social network of the floating population is the important basis for their choice of settlements. The subjective psychological expectation of the floating population is the psychological support of their settlement choice.(3)The influence of social and economic status on the choice of settlements of floating population in different categories(gender, marriage, education, etc.)is different. This paper puts forward the following countermeasures and suggestions:(1)In the "talent war",cities should find the key to improve the social and economic status of the floating population.(2)The government should pay attention to the differences and meet the needs of different settlements of the floating population.(3)The government should standardize and encourage the employment behavior of enterprises and improve the economic hard power of the floating population.(4)The floating population should actively enhance their socio-economic status and prevent social class from solidifying. The innovation of this paper is that the research dimension has been expanded. This paper measures the social and economic status of the indicators for the three dimensions of economic, social and subjective psychology, and clarifies the three types of migrant settlements choice, making the social and economic status of migrant settlements choice research perspective more comprehensive, more explanatory conclusions. The shortcomings of this paper are: the selection of variables to measure social and economic status is not comprehensive enough, the causal identification between variables is not deep enough, and the dimensionality reduction of some data in this paper has affected the reliability, validity and discrimination of the study to a certain extent.
