In the age-old tradition of ethnic issues in Kenya, ethnic groups have been in conflict over land, boundaries division and economic inequality during the colonial period.Since independence,Kenya's political situation has remained stable on the whole, but the power competition among ethnic groups has been extremely fierce.Especially after the democratization in the 1990 s,the country has fallen into a strange circle of "every election must be chaotic",which has triggered a large number of ethnic conflicts. In pastoral areas, because of the long-term marginalization, there are frequent conflicts of resource competition among ethnic groups in order to compete for pasture resources.Although Kenya has entered the modern countries, and maintain a long-term political stability and no civil war for a long time since independence,it has been unable to get rid of its ethnic characteristics.Ethnic conflict is based on ethnic identity, but also stems from the deeper political and economic incentives in the construction of modern countries. This paper focuses on the study of ethnic conflict and ethnic integration, focusing on the conflict of power struggle and resource competition in Kenya, and analyses the root history of ethnic conflict.Based on the analysis of the causes of the conflict, this thesis will focus on how does the Kenyan government deal with the ethnic relations in the country,as well as the effectiveness and shortcomings of the conflict management actions. But until now,the subjective and objective conditions for solving ethnic conflict and realizing ethnic reconciliation through political negotiation are not yet fully available,so it's tough being integrated of all ethnic groups,Not to mention the difficulties. This paper is divided into five parts. The introduction briefly discusses the research background and significance, research purposes, domestic and foreignresearch review, concept definition and main research approaches and methods. The second part mainly introduces the development process and ethnic structure of Kenya, focusing on the three main ethnic groups of Kikuyu,Luo and Karenzin in Kenya. This part mainly lays a foundation for revealing the historical background of the emergence of ethnic issues in Kenya by analyzing the situation of ethnic relations of Kenya from the perspective of the development process of ethnic groups and the influence of ethnic groups on the independence process of Kenya. The following two parts are the core content of this paper. The third part mainly expounds two types of ethnic conflicts in Kenya, which included power struggle and resource competition.Starting from the manifestation and characteristics of the conflict, the causes of the conflicts are analyzed from the aspects of democratic transformation, party competition and impunity. The fourth part mainly focuses on the conflict between power struggle and resource competition in Kenya, and analyses the conflict management actions taken by the government, civil society organizations, the international community and traditional community mechanisms to solve the problem of ethnic groups. The last part is the conclusion of this paper. This part summarizes the full text research content, summarizes the ethnic conflict in Kenya will cause conflict management behavior of the government in the end,the future forward the related proposals on how to solve the problem of ethnic conflict in Kenya. And the paper emphasizes that ngos and other civil society organizations have remarkable constructive abilities in the field of conflict management, the government need to reinforce the conflict management cooperation.
