This paper investigated the impact of the level of social class(high vs.low)on vocational preference.Besides, this paper explored the mediation role of and independent self-construal and interdependent self-construal,and the moderation effect of individuals'individualism orientation and collectivism orientation, and further checked the moderated mediation effect. This research carried out two studies to verify hypothesis.Study 1 was a questionnaire investigation,in total,326 employees from 30 different organizations took part in,exploring the influence of different level of social class on vocational preference in real situation,as well as its underlying mechanism.Study 2 was an experiment,in which the level of social class was manipulated.84 participants were randomly divided into two groups. We primed participants to be either the high or low level of social class. This study verified the mediation effect and the moderated mediation effect in the end.The results show that applicants with high level of social class were more strongly attracted to jobs whose recruiting advertisements were based on an ego-focused emotional appeal, while applicants with low level of social class were more attracted to jobs that used ads with an other-focused emotional appeal.Independent self-construal plays a mediation role in the influence of the different-level of social class on the ego-focused emotional appeal, while the interdependent self-construal plays a mediation role in the influence of the different-level of social class on the other-focused emotional appeal.Individual level of individualism and collectivism moderates the relationship of social class and the emotional appeal. The research also verifies the moderated mediation effects. The individualism moderates the mediating effect of self-construal between social class and vocational preference. The implications of these results for voice research and practice,as well as directions for future research, are also presented in this paper.
