Affected by internal and external factors such as the gradual slowdown in economic growth and the Sino-US trade war,China's economic development and employment promotion are facing severe challenges. On July 31,2018,the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting to make "stable employment" the first priority in the second half of 2018.Although the number of registered urban unemployed persons in 2017 is slightly lower than that in 2016,the number of registered urban unemployed people is still at a relatively high level, which is still a major hidden danger to social stability. Therefore, promoting employment and stabilizing employment have become an important task in the current development of the socialist market economy.According to the relevant theories of Western economics, the methods to promote employment mainly include ways to increase investment, stimulate consumption, and promote exports. For China,investment-driven employment is the current national situation, and infrastructure construction,as an important part of investment, often becomes one of the means for local governments at all levels to promote employment.Nantong City is located in the southeastern part of Jiangsu.Since the reform and opening up,Nantong City has relied on superior geographical conditions to vigorously develop the economy and achieved fruitful results.Affected by the slowdown in national economic growth in recent years,Nantong City has increased investment in fixed assets such as infrastructure to stimulate economic growth and promote social employment. The extent to which infrastructure construction in Nantong is driven by employment is the focus of this paper. This paper conducts a detailed study on the impact of infrastructure construction on employment in Nantong City, and empirically studies the impact of infrastructure construction on employment from three perspectives: descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis and linear regression analysis.According to the results of empirical research, the following three conclusions can be drawn: First, the average number of urban employment in Nantong is 148,600,and the average value of infrastructure construction is 33.474 billion yuan.Theaverage value of regional GDP is 546.87.100 million yuan. From the sample analysis, the urban employment, infrastructure construction and regional GDP of the sample in Nantong City are higher than those of the other six counties and cities, indicating the employment situation, infrastructure construction and economic development level of Nantong City. The gap is very large.Second, there is a significant positive correlation between the number of urban employment in Nantong City and the scale of infrastructure construction and regional GDP.From the results of the correlation analysis of the sub-samples,there is a significant positive correlation between urban employment and the scale of infrastructure construction and regional GDP in the sample of seven counties and cities in Nantong.Third, the linear regression model of the impact of infrastructure construction on employment in Nantong City is generally significant. The scale of infrastructure construction in Nantong City has a significant positive impact on the number of urban employment. For every unit of infrastructure construction, the number of urban employment will increase by 0.5238 units. At the same time, from the linear regression analysis results of the sub-samples,the linear regression model of the impact of infrastructure construction on employment in the seven counties and urban areas is statistically significant. The scale of infrastructure construction has significant significance for urban employment.Positive impact.
