Spatial Politics And The Survival Strategies Of Outbound Mobile Hawkers

Since the reform and opening up,a large number of rural surplus laborers have entered the city to become mobile hawkers,which inevitably has a certain impact on the urban social order.At the same time,many local governments in China have implemented strict and controlled governance of mobile hawkers,and authorized urban management departments to completely ban them in a “blocking” manner.However,mobile hawkers have not undergone fundamental changes due to strict bans by urban management departments.Instead,they have accumulated a large number of social contradictions in the process.So,why are mobile hawkers embedded in urban space? In the face of the increasingly tight urban living space,how do hawkers fight in their daily lives,and what kind of "survival strategy" has been adopted to expand their living space?As a pioneer of reform and development and a nationalized metropolis,Guangzhou has a large number of migrants and a large number of social groups represented by mobile hawkers.Therefore,based on the above understandings and questions,the author selects the foreign mobile hawkers in Guangzhou as the main research object,and takes the spatial political theory as the macro background and perspective,and regards the mobile vendors as individuals living in an independent urban space.At the level of action practice,the research on hawkers is carried out,the survival strategy and action logic are infiltrated into space politics,and the survival status and survival strategies of the hawkers in urban space are discussed.Through literature review,in-depth interviews and field surveys,the author finds that institutional restrictions,economic differentiation and the promotion of survival pressure,regional human relations and the marginalization of living space are the main logic of hawkers to form and embed into urban space.They in the urban space,though political integration gradually,and urban daily life but also because of the weak position in the urban space,faced with the living space "is constructed" phenomenon,in the city faced with different levels of isolation,rejection of urbanization is,spatial mismatch and stigmatized,and urban governance in space.Vendors flows at the same time,also through their own efforts to expand their own living space in the city,as a form of power carrier body get "liberation" of "body consciousness" is growing at the same time,objectively as mobile vendors to express and maintain interest provides an effective means,has become a space of their action strategy;Faced with the isolation of urban space,especially interpersonal relationship,the hawkers are also potential space political strategies to build self-identity of the group.Based on the re-examination of the political behavior strategies adopted by mobile vendors to expand daily urban living space,it is found that under the existing space framework,mobile vendors also enhance the complexity of their own political actions and the diversity of space,so as to obtain the "opportunity space" for survival.In the choice of space political strategy of antagonism with urban management,the hawkers will take different measures according to the specific situation.Faced with the dilemma of urban living space,the floating street vendors mainly adopt various strategies such as patience,withdrawal,diversion and resistance to survive.
