The middle and late Tang Dynasty was not only a peak period in the development of feudal society in ancient China,but also a key-time of great social change.The clans grab the opportunity for development,but in the mean time,they also gradually towards decline.This paper chooses such an era of clans revival and decline to carry on the research,from the clan's official,the influence of imperial examination system and the late Tang Dynasty clan's decline,seeks the clue of clan's change from the Tang and Song Dynasty reform.Since the beginning of Tang Dynasty,the power and status of the clans have declined compared with the previous generation,but in fact,they still has a strong vitality until middle and late Tang Dynasty.This group occupied the central position of politics by made a large number of prime ministers and high-ranking officials.After the middle Tang Dynasty,with the imperial examination system becoming an important way to enter the government,the clans began to comply with the requirements of the times and participate in the imperial examination by using advantage of all kinds of convenience to manipulate and control the examination so as to serve the interests of the family.In order to enhance the ability of imperial examination,their family-culture began to focus on literature from the emphasis on Confucianism and classics in the past and loss their cultural advantages.In order to be an official,the clan's member move away from their rural place and settled in the cities with the two capital as the mainstay and surroundings.The character of clan's independent was attenuated while the dependence on the central regime grew concurrently.After the chaos of Anshi,the political situation of Tang Dynasty became more and more dark,and all kinds of contradictions and conflicts intensified.The peasant uprising led by Huang chao gave the clans a deathblow and eventually led them to decline.
