The Us-south Korea Alliance Study From The Perspective Of The North Korean Nuclear Crisis

The US-South Korea alliance,as a military alliance in the Korean Peninsula,has been formed and strengthened since the 1950 s.Although it exists as a strategy,in dealing with the cold war and the peninsula problem,the United States and South Korea have always had their own strategic game against North Korea.Therefore,in the change of the nuclear situation on the peninsula,the evolved alliance relationship between the two countries in response to North Korea has always been between tension and ease,alternating and forming a logical evolution path of "three-channel and double-loop".Specifically,after the end of the Cold War,the end of the confrontation between the US and the Soviet Union broke the security situation in Northeast Asia and also caused a huge impact on North Korea.Whether it is a political isolation situation or an economic development obstacle that it has brought unprecedented pressure on North Korea.Especially in terms of security,in order to defend itself and resist the strategic threat from the other countries,the United States and South Korea,North Korea began to develop nuclear weapons.This caused mistrust between the United States and the DPRK,and then the first nuclear crisis broke out.Under the influence of the DPRK nuclear crisis,the United States and South Korea constantly adjusted the core of the strategy because of the inherent characteristics of the alliance and the differences in their policies toward the DPRK.Thus the alliance cooperation and the alliance dilemma accompanied with the momentum and pressure.Without the collapse of alliance relations due to the end of the cold war,they continue to be interdependent and maintain the stable situation of cooperation and dilemma intertwined in fluctuations.Therefore,the DPRK nuclear crisis can be seen as a lever to incite the US-South Korea alliance,and it plays a key role in stabilizing and challenging the US-South Korea alliance.With the change of the heads of US and ROK governments,the US-ROK relations and the US-DPRK relations have undergone different adjustments in a period of time,so the US-ROK alliance is potentially nurturing a new cooperation mechanism.In the context of the North Korean nuclear crisis,this article sorts out the evolution path of the US-South Korea alliance when the North Korean nuclear crisis changes,and regard as the North Korea's choice of abandoning nuclear in 2018 as an entry point.Based on the theory of alliance and alliance dilemma,this paper studies the evolution logic and mechanism of the US-South Korea alliance in the nuclear crisis environment,and explores the "three-channel and double-loop" logical chain among the DPRK nuclear crisis,the US-ROK alliance cooperation and the alliance's dilemma,and then tries to explain the alliance survival mechanism formed by the US-ROK alliance in the fluctuation of the DPRK nuclear crisis.
