This thesis investigates Chinese labour migration to Kazakhstan.Negative public perception in Kazakhstan due to the active Chinese migration flow is considered to be the main obstacle for economic growth between these two countries. That's why this dimension is taken as the foundation of this research.Thesis is divided into two parts, which are theoretical part and empirical research.Theoretical part of the thesis starts with the explanation of contemporary Chinese labour migration and its public perception in Kazakhstan.Further thesis explains key reasons for negative public perception in Kazakhstan towards Chinese migration, which includes public fear of competition for jobs and criticisms toward Chinese firms, and other factors influencing negative perception of Chinese migrants. The last chapter of the theory explains benefits of foreign direct investment to developing countries. This chapter is aimed at explanation of economic exchange benefits for developing countries. And negative public perception in Kazakhstan puts obstacles for economic exchange.Empirical research of the thesis is divided into two parts.Research 1 is based on the conceptualisation of negative public perception in Kazakhstan towards Chinese migration flow. This part of the thesis is conducted in the form of questionnaire to reveal current public attitude in Kazakhstan towards Chinese migration process.Research 2 is conducted in the form of data analyses.Statistics analyses of Chinese immigration process into Kazakhstan from 2000-2014 gives clear understanding of exact number of Chinese migrants per a year and the purpose of their stay in Kazakhstan.According to the statistics it was revealed that in 2008 there was record high Chinese migration inflow into Kazakhstan. Therefore, that period of time was chosen for detailed analysing in terms of the number of Chinese migrants arrived into Kazakhstan, their purpose of stay, and ethnic composition of citizens arriving from China. In conclusion according to the qualitative, quantitative, and empirical researches author came to following conclusions: there is an existence of negative public perception in Kazakhstan towards Chinese demographic expansion.Moreover,anti-Chinese sentiments in Kazakhstan towards Chinese migration are triggered by the existence of public fear of competition for jobs and negative attitude to Chinese firms.Additionally,it was revealed that there are other factors influencing to public perception, which is lack of knowledge about China in terms of Chinese language, culture, and habits. However, empirical research 2 proves the wrongfulness of statements on Chinese demographic expansion.Chinese migration process is only due to the economic growth and territorial mobility and it is not aimed at the resettlement of Chinese people(Han)into Kazakhstan. Moreover,Chinese labour migration is generated due to the intensive trade relations between these two countries. Therefore, the current negative public perception in Kazakhstan puts obstacles for economic growth. Thus, this issue must be taken into serious considerations.
