Abstract/Summary:
The Economics Manuscripts of 1857-1858,as a theoretical achievement of 15years’ research after Marx turned his vision to economics, contains rich political and economic thoughts. This thesis relies on The Economics Manuscripts of 1857-1858 as the main text, aiming on digging out Marx’s thoughts about consumption, and exploring the theoretical logic, core views and theoretical status of Marx’s thoughts of consumption in the 1950 s.According to the principle of the unity of logic and history, this paper defines the background of Marx’s writing and focuses on the theoretical problems and practical dilemmas that Marx has to solve in writing The Economics Manuscripts of 1857-1858.In order to grasp the core viewpoint and theoretical value of Marx’s consumption thoughts in the text accurately,on the one hand,it is necessary to summarize Marx’s research on consumption before he wrote The Economics Manuscripts of 1857-1858,so as to clarify the theoretical formation of Marx’s consumption thoughts. On the other hand,it is significant of clarifying the overall logical thinking of the manuscripts to avoid empirical representation of consumption theory. This paper is to grasp the consumption in The Economic Manuscripts of 1857-1858 in the process of capital production and the formation of Marx’s consumption thoughts, and to analyze Marx’s consumption thoughts in the manuscripts with a dynamic and developmental perspective. As Marx pointed out, consumption and production are identical. In the meanwhile, production is the starting point of capitalist production process, distribution is the intermediary between production and consumption, exchange is the condition for commodities to realize their value, and consumption is the process to complete the use value of commodities, which is the end point of the entire session. At the same time, consumption is not only the loss of material and the satisfaction of human own needs, but also the process of selling the labor force into commodities, the process of capitalproliferation, the process of generating surplus value, and the process of shaping the class relationship between capitalists and workers.Marx believed that in this process, production based on private ownership made workers increasingly poor, and alienated consumption.Consumption alienation is the inevitable result under capital control.Only by eliminating private ownership and realizing communism can we get out of consumption alienation and achieve the ideal consumption with the goal of free and comprehensive development of human beings.
