In the past ten years,the scale of China's economy has become 2.5 times larger,making it the country with the fastest growing economy in the world.At the same time,as people's living standards have improved,their need to have a better life has caused them to have higher consumption demands.As a result,luxury consumption has gradually entered their field of vision.In addition,with the rapid development of online shopping platforms in recent years,marketing strategies in the era of big data,and the progress of the transportation industry,the luxury consumption market in China has rapidly expanded.As demonstrated by McKinsey's 2019 Luxury Consumption Report,more than half of the global luxury market growth between 2012 and 2018 came from China.In the face of this wave of luxury consumption in China and against the backdrop of a new era,this paper reflects on the value of luxury consumption.The essence of luxury consumption is the alienation of human labor,which has roots in social history and varies with the desire and need to serve people.The emergence of luxury consumption is due not only to general reasons that exist universally in the world,but also the specific reasons created by consumption upgrading in China.Based on Marxist needs theory and development theory,we can find that luxury consumption is a reflection of people's desire to improve the quality of consumption,an expression of people's "new needs,” and a process of people's initial development and enjoyment of consumption.According to Marxist development theory and social practice,we can not deny that the production and consumption of luxury goods play a strong role in promoting the economy.In addition,luxury consumption is also a reflection of historical and cultural heritage.However,because of its high quality and high price,luxury consumption is prone to consumption alienation,which easily leads to people's pursuit of added value and the loss of their consumption rationality.These drawbacks can not be ignored.In addition,the production and consumption of luxury goods also lead to the waste and destruction of resources.Therefore,we should not only criticize the alienation of luxury consumption,but also affirm the rationality of the current consumption upgrading in China.In view of the current situation of luxury consumption in China,we should continue to develop the culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era,standardize luxury brand management,develop consumer culture education,and adhere to the principle of moderate,green,and diversified consumer ethics.This paper makes a moral criticism of the consumption of luxury goods from the perspectives of social and historical development trends and human needs and development using the methods of historical research,comparative research,and literature research.This paper provides a feasible reference in order to guide people to abandon harmful consumption methods against the multicultural backdrop of relatively rich material,help people to break free from the manipulation of material,form rational consumption views,advance people's comprehensive development through consumption,and promote people's realization of a better life.
