Face recognition is a basic cognitive ability of human beings, which is significant to the survival and development of mankind.Based on the summary of previous studies, the present study, adjusting the reward categories and task difficulty in helping and criminal situations and using the synchronized sampling technology to collect behavior?eye movement and EEG data, aimed to examine the cognitive and neurocognitive mechanisms of face recognition in multidimensional social situations with different reward categories and task difficulty. The present study included two experiments: Setting different reward levels and task difficulty, the first experiment aimed to examine the face recognition differences between subjects in different help situations.Subjects' correctness, reaction time,ERPs and eye movement data of face recognition was collected.Analogously, setting different reward levels and task difficulty, the second experiment intended to examine the face recognition differences between subjects in different criminal situations.Subjects' correctness, reaction time,ERPs and eye movement data of face recognition was collected. Results from the first experiment revealed that in the face recognition task, the average amplitude of N170 was influenced by reward levels and task difficulty.Higher reward conditions and easier tasks induced greater average amplitude of N170.Different task difficulty resulted in differences in average amplitudes more difficult tasks induced larger P2 amplitudes, however, the main effect was not significant in the category of reward. The average amplitude of LPC was influenced by reward levels.Compared to higher reward levels, lower reward levels induced more positive LPC.Moreover, when watching those faces, subjects first focused on their eyes, then noses and mouths. In higher reward and more difficult situations, subjects observed those faces for longer time and it was noteworthy that in higher reward situations, subjects had more attention points. Results from the second experiment revealed that the average amplitude of N170 was influenced by the interaction of reward category and task difficulty. In the easier task, higher reward levels induced higher average amplitude or N170.No significant differences of the average amplitude of P2 and LPC were observed between different reward categories and task difficulty. In addition, when watching those faces, subjects first focused on their eyes, then noses and mouths. And different areas of interest areaffected by the interaction of task difficulty and reward categories. The results revealed that, there were differences in the regulation of reward categories and task difficulty on face recognition in behavior, eye movement and brain mechanism.Reward conditions played a more significant role in criminal situations than in helping situations, revealing the characteristics and rules of face recognition in different social situations.
