The Study Of Catalan Nationalist Separatism

Against the background of the rise of nationalism in the post-cold war world,national separatism has become a great threat to sovereign states.Through demonstration and radiation,a series of national separatism movements have been triggered,which have a negative impact on the deconstruction of sovereign states.In the field of international relations,this issue has gradually become a hot topic in academic discussions.The 2017 independence referendum of Catalonia(hereafter referred to as "Catalan independence referendum")has attracted international attention and become a hot issue in international politics that year.Supporters of Catalan national separatism constantly confirm their own identities by emphasizing historical persecution,unique status of Catalan language,"single identity label" and economic advantages,and determine their differences from others,so as to seek the same sovereign state status as the Spanish government.In the analysis of the case of Catalonia,it is found that the Catalonia national separatism has the characteristics of transition from violence to moderation,economy and non-expansion,which make the independence prospect of Catalonia national separatism dim and destined not to develop to the level of separatism.In the face of the Catalan separatist movement,the Spanish government and the European Union unanimously and explicitly refused to recognize the Catalan referendum as a question of national self-determination in order to prevent the "domino effect" brought by the threat of sovereignty and the separatist movement in Europe.In the 2017 Catalan referendum,Spain showed a clear and strong attitude,which gave no opportunity for secessionists,but still appeared to be inexperienced.It adopted military means to deal with the separatist movement in Catalonia,which resulted in bloodshed.This will arouse the memory of historical persecution suffered by the Catalans and reduce the legitimacy as a sovereign national defense.The main experience of Spain and the EUin dealing with separatism is that the key to containing the separatism movement is to resolutely adopt the strategy of defiance,leaving no room for international recognition of the secessionist region and exposing the illegality and anti-democracy of the national secession movement.The main lesson is that there must be no double standard on the question of separatism.The European Union has deliberately misinterpreted the connotation of the right to national self-determination,which has led to the current European separatists' criticism of its policies and made it fall into a passive position.In the context of the rise of the nationalist separatist movement,this paper conducts a case study on Catalonia.Focusing on the beginning and end of the Catalan separatist movement,From the perspective of history,language,culture and economy,this paper tries to understand the reasons for the Catalan people to adopt the separatist movement,dig out the characteristics different from the national separatism in other regions,and then find and reflect on the response of the Spanish government and the European Union to the Catalan national separatism.Finally,focusing on the national separatist movement in China,we need to draw experience and lessons from the measures taken by Spain and the European Union to deal with separatism,and explore the theory of fighting against the separatist forces from practice,so as to make Suggestions for the peaceful reunification of the country and the eventual national rejuvenation.
