Countermeasures Against The Spread And Control Of Ethnic Separatism In Xinjiang

It has lasted for more than one hundred years from "Pan-Islamism" and "Pan-Turkism" being introduced to Xinjiang from the end of the 19 th century to the beginning of the 20 th century,developing into a complete system of national separatism and influencing Xinjiang with the combination of religious extremism and violent terrorism.The ethnic separatism existing in Xinjiang is a reactionary social trend of thought in which a small number of ethnic separatists collude with foreign hostile forces and attempt to split Xinjiang from the territory of China.Diversified routes and channels of communication are the important reason for frequent violent terrorist cases in Xinjiang.The spread of ethnic separatism in Xinjiang has experienced four periods of word-ofmouth,writing,printing,and electronic communication.The way of communication has also changed with the progress of society.The rumor has gradually changed from the original wrong historical view that "Uygur ancestors was Turkic people” into the political vain hope of splitting Xinjiang and establishing the Islamic Republic of East Turkestan;the audiences include adult males as well as adolescents,women and children.In the face of the real threat of terrorism,in recent years,Xinjiang has taken various measures in accordance with the law to struggle against extremism,which has effectively curbed the frequent occurrence of terrorist activities,but failed to prevent the penetration and spread of national separatist ideas.The violent terrorist forces generated thereby and their influences still exist and are still waiting for opportunities to make troubles.Therefore,the author believes that it is necessary to take corresponding measures to cut off the channels for the spread of ethnic separatism in Xinjiang and to ban violent terrorism from the source.More efforts should be made to increase the supervision on the Internet industry.The government and Internet operators can share relevant information and intercept messages about separatism and extremism during the process of dissemination.Religious sites(such as mosques)and religious figures should be managed in a scientific way,and a long-term mechanism for management services should be established.The people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang should be provided with extensive publicity and education activities concerning patriotism and extremism,so that the masses can enhance their sense of Chinese national identity,consciously resist national separatism,refuse to spread and believe in national separatism,and jointly safeguard national unity.Only by taking both internal and external measures and treating both the symptoms and the root causes can we better constrain the momentum of the spread of ethnic separatism in Xinjiang and build Xinjiang a beautiful homeland with social stability and sense of well-being.
