Research On Maritime Cooperation Between China And South Korea

China and South Korea are interdependent through the Yellow Sea,and moving toward maritime cooperation is the only way for China and South Korea.Although there are some cognitive differences between the scholars in China and South Korea,on the ocean issue,in the long run,the great demand and great benefits of the two countries in maritime cooperation make these differences unable to hinder the maritime cooperation between the two countries.The thesis will analyze the cooperation between China and South Korea on the five levels of marine strategy,cooperation problems and solutions.The first part:Analyze the maritime strategy of China and South Korea.China and South Korea have similar maritime security environments.The Yellow Sea is a sea area shared by these two countries.Not only that,the Yellow Sea has a similar historical experience for both countries.Therefore,formulate what kind of marine economic strategy to develop and whether to actively promote ocean cooperation are important to both of them.Part Ⅱ:In the era of economic globalization,the ocean has become more important for the future development of China and South Korea.In 1994,China and South Korea signed the’Memorandum of Understanding on Marine Science and Technology cooperation between China and South Korea(MOU)’ on China-Korea Ocean Science and Technology Cooperation,and on May 12,1995,the ’China-Korea Joint Research Center for Marine Science’ was established in Qingdao.This part will focus scientific and technological cooperation on the maritime cooperation between China and South Korea,and analyze the status quo and progress of the two countries in the fields of marine science and technology cooperation and tourism cooperation.Part Ⅲ:This section analyzes the problems and obstacles faced by China and South Korea in the field of maritime cooperation around the 1994 ’United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea’.The analysis focuses on fishery disputes between the two countries and the dispute between the Socotra Rock(Reef)and the two countries in the ocean.Also,this part will treat many cases of non-traditional security issues facing the field,such as marine pollution.Part IV:Analysis of the great practical significance and future path of maritime cooperation between the two countries.The thesis analyzes the significance of the cooperation between the two countries on the improvement of relations between the two countries and the ocean governance in Northeast Asia.It is believed that the cooperation between China and South Korea will help to open the mechanism of ocean governance in Northeast Asia.On the future path of China-Korea maritime cooperation,this thesis suggests the economic significance and possibility of ocean ferry.
