Research On RT-related China Reports On YouTube

With the continuous enhancement of China's national strength and communication capabilities,the international image has been greatly improved.However,it is undeniable that the mainstream media in the Western countries such as the United States and Europe are still in a hegemonic position in the field of international communication.Although Russia is also facing the hegemony of Western countries,RT has changed the global information flow to a certain extent and challenged the hegemonic status of Western media.Through the study of RT's China-related reports,we can learn from RT's experience,which will have a positive impact on China's external communication construction.Based on the framework theory,this dissertation uses content analysis,case analysis,text analysis,and statistical analysis to analyze the content and statistics of RT's China-related reports on the YouTube platform 2013-2018.Analysis of the basic attributes and media attributes of the report,to explore the characteristics of RT-China reports on the YouTube platform,as well as the Chinese image and position presented,and then to propose strategies to improve China's image and external communication.The research found that the characteristics of RT ' s dissemination on the YouTube platform include making good use of new media strategies;political,military,economic,and social news are the top topics reported by RT;they attach great importance to Sino-US relations,but are labelled “ conflict ”.In terms of reporting tendency and national image presentation,RT mostly reported China-related incidents in a neutral or positive discourse,and also showed a positive image of a great country in terms of national image presentation.This dissertation also attempts to explore its stance from three aspects: Sino-Russian relations,media control of RT,and international political structure.RT's China-related report on YouTube gave enlightenment to China's external communication.China needs to take a Chinese perspective,spread Chinese voices,focus on international news,cultivate media groups with international competitiveness,strengthen media exchanges,and increase media mutual trust.At the national level,China needs to raise awareness of China 's political image,innovate the way the state manages media,be alert to discourse myths,and enhance its international communication power.
