A Study On The Moral Capital Of Corazon Aquino In The Philippines

The research on "moral capital" and "leadership" is the focus of academic circles.After The third wave of democratization,more and more Asian female political leaders began to be active in political area in the world,such as Margaret Hilda Thatcher and Theresa May in Britain,Germany's Angela Merkel,indira Gandhi of India,Pakistan's Benazir bhutto Megawati soekarno Putri in Indonesia,Thailand's Yingluck Shinawatra,Wan Azizah in Malaysia,Corazon Aquino and Gloria Arroyo in the Philippines,Burma's Aung San Suu Kyi,Park Geun-hye in the South Korea and so on.By the way,Corazon Aquino is the first female President in southeast Asia.Currently,there are four research paradigms and analytical tools for studying Asian female political leaders,including patriarchy,gender,double trouble and moral capital,the first three of which are particularly common.Foreign academic circles have the most and the most in-depth analysis of moral capital on Aung San Suu Kyi,and the analysis of moral capital on other Asian female political leaders is relatively insufficient,and the study of Philippine female President Corazon Aquino from the perspective of moral capital is even less.So this paper attempts to analyze the dilemma and obstacles of women's governance from five aspects:the concept of moral capital,the formation,application,loss and cause analysis of Corazon Aquino's moral capital,and at the same time to deepen the understanding of Philippine political environment and social culture.Corazon Aquino,as the replacement and successor of the famous politician Nino Aquino,was appointed in a time of crisis.The huge family power and family politics behind her were the political cornerstone of her successful election as the first female President of the Philippines.Democratic election is an important element for her rise to power.The shackles of a long period of dictatorship are a good opportunity for her to come to power.Divinity,femininity and image-making are important factors in her success.Under the action of a variety of factors,her moral capital is constantly forming and pushing her to the peak of power.However,Corazon Aquino was unable to break through the shackles of elite politics and patronage parties in the end.Her family members' corruption decline her reputation eventually.And her glorious image is gradually disappearing.Besides,in the process of promoting democratic reform,she has struggled to follow suit.In this process,she kept breaking her people's promises,thus losing the legitimacy of support and governance,and moral capital is constantly weakened until it is completely lost.The lofty mission of the moral capital of Corazon Aquino is to overthrow the dictatorship.At the same time,it breaks the "top ceiling" for the women in the political realm and to make the women to bid for the presidency and to reach the top of the power.It also provides a new research paradigm of political leaders and analysis tools for the Philippines and other countries around the world female research.
