The militia system is a unique military system,at the beginning of the establishment of the British North American colonies,it was a paramilitary society in which all the people were armed,Pennsylvania was the last to establish a militia in the thirteen colonies of British North America.The article takes the Pennsylvania colony of the North American colonies as an example,combining Pennsylvania colonial records and archives,To investigate the founding process of the colonial militia system in Pennsylvania,and explored the characteristics and functions of the Pennsylvania militia system.The article is composed of the introduction,text and conclusion,The text is divided into four parts.The first part is the origin of the British North American colonial militia system,From the European military tradition and the special environment of the North American colonies,the historical tradition and ideological origin of the militia system are traced,so as to provide the premise and foundation for the establishment of the Pennsylvania militia system.The second part is about the establishment of the Pennsylvania militia system during the colonial period,mainly combed the establishment process of the Pennsylvania colonial militia system.Starting from the political opinions of non-quaker members,the military ideas of Benjamin Franklin,and the failure of the Battle of Braddock,the discussion of the background of the establishment of the militia system was carried out,at the same time,from the political,economic,religious and other aspects of the reasons for the latest establishment of the militia system in Pennsylvania.The third part is the organization and activities of Pennsylvania militia during the colonial period,From the perspectives of militia recruitment and dispatching,organizational discipline,weapons and equipment,the system of Pennsylvania militia is discussed.In addition,it pays attention to the military training of the militia and the activities during the War of Independence,and systematically explores the militia activities in Pennsylvania.The fourth part reviews the Pennsylvania militia system during the colonial period,and explores from two aspects: characteristics and functions.The Pennsylvania militia system is not simply imitated,but was transformed and established in the specific environment of British North American colonies to form a distinctive system.Despite the shortcomings of the militia system,it is of great significance in providing armed defense for the colonies,resisting potential military threats,and promoting the independence of the colonies.During the colonial period,the establishment of the Pennsylvania militia system improved the British North American colonial militia system,provided an important armed forces for the North American War of Independence,and had a profound impact on the American military system.
