| Since 2012,China’s demographic dividend has gradually disappeared, and the problem of population aging has become increasingly prominent, which has caused the continuous reduction of new labor. How to find more labor resources has become an urgent task affecting economic development. The release of the potential female labor force to increase the female labor force participation rate has become an important way to solve this problem. In recent years, due to the dual pressure of housework and market work, many women have chosen to give up market work, and the female labor force participation rate has continued to decline.Especially since the opening of the two-child policy in 2016,the employment problem for women who cannot enter the labor market due to child rearing needs to be resolved urgently. The rise of the Internet has aroused people’s new thinking on the issue of female labor participation in China. The development of the Internet is gradually changing people’s lifestyles. At the same time, people’s employment choices are also affected by the use of the Internet. The digital economy platform under the Internet eases the contradiction between the “employment difficulty” and the “labor shortage” in employment supply and demand, and accelerates the comprehensive digitization of China’s service industry;the development of new economic formats such as platform economy, sharing economy, crowdsourcing and crowd creation, has spawned work models of self-employment and part-time work, created a large number of flexible jobs.It has become a new engine for stable employment and flexible employment in China, and provided new possibilities for women to balance housework and market work.Based on the 2015 survey data of the China Comprehensive Social Survey(CGSS),this paper uses the Probit model to examine the impact of Internet use on female labor participation in China by using multiple characteristic variables, and then discusses the heterogeneous effects of Internet use on female labor participation in decision-making for different numbers of minor children, education level, and survey location, and further classifies the sample into types of overall,self-employed and part-time employment to analyze the internal mechanism of Internet use affecting female labor participation with the help of relevant empirical tests, and draws conclusions that are in line with China’s national conditions, and puts forward relevant suggestions. The study found that the use of the Internet has increased the opportunities for women to participate in labor. For women who have more children in the family, are highly educated, and live in urban areas, the positive impact of the Internet on their labor participation is particularly significant, and mainly plays a role through the Internet’s information channels, flexible employment and online education to improve the level of human capital. This paper believes that in order to increase women’s enthusiasm for labor participation, the government should further strengthen the popularity of the Internet, increase investment in Internet skills training for women, and facilitate the flexible employment of women. |
