Research On Marriage Squeeze Of Marriageable Men In Rural Areas Of Southwest Hubei

As a result of the imbalance of gender ratio and the influence of population flow,many rural areas,however,are currently facing marriage squeeze,many men are difficult to find the right marriage partner when they reach the age of marriage.The problem of marriage squeeze is more obvious in the underdeveloped ethnic areas.Excess men will cause huge security risks.This is not conducive to rural development and social harmony.By investigating the field of C Village,Hefeng County,Southwest Hubei Province,this paper obtained the first-hand information about the current situation of marriage squeeze in the village with literature collection,participation in observation,in-depth interview and other research methods.It used the theory of marriage gradient and marriage market to analyze the causes and consequences concerning the marriage squeeze of the village,and finally put forth countermeasures to cope with this problem of marriage squeeze.According to the research,there is a problem of male marriage squeeze in the Southwest of Hubei Province.In the field of C Village,many rural men of marriageable age can not find suitable marriage partners.Because of the high marriage consumption and the age difference between many couples,men are often in a state of compromise in marriage.There are many reasons why men of marriageable age face marriage squeeze,except for men's limited conditions and narrow communication circle,undeveloped local economy,a large number of women's outflow,trapezoid concept of mate selection are also important factors.Unmarried men are depressed for a long time,that is adverse to their physical and mental health and personal growth.There are a large number of unmarried men in the society,which will improve women's position in the marriage market,lead to the rising of extramarital affairs,the increase of divorce rate,the emergence of heterogeneous marriage,for instance,"business marriage",thus affecting social stability.Unmarried men may aggravate conflicts,cause negative impact on the public security of ruralcommunities due to they do not have the buffer and guidance of family life,which is not conducive to the construction of rural areas.Based on this,the author puts forward countermeasures from the following four aspects:first,we should actively advocate rational marriage and childbearing behaviors and change the concept of childbearing.Second,we should build a marriage social support system for men of marriageable age,and provide matchmaking services for unmarried men of older age,advocate the diversification of legal marriage mode,civilized marriage,and expand the social support network for unmarried men of older age.Third,we should enhance the self-development ability of men of marriageable age,and provide them with free labor skills training and employment opportunities.Fourth,we should strengthen the "rule of law" and "rule of virtue" in villages,guide villagers to gain the knowledge of the law and abide by the law,implement civilized rural culture activities in an active way,as well as relieve the pressure of marriage squeeze of unmarried men who have reached the age of marriage.
