Along with the development of a globalized economy,the overall strength of the multinational companies has been lifted over time,exerting an increasing impact on constructing international political and economic structures.Being a novel force on the international stage,multinational companies play an active role in driving the global economy and improving people's well-being.However,such success has been obtained somehow at the expense of human rights.More and more multinational companies have been accused of violating human rights in business activities,such as damaging the interest of employees,polluting the surrounding environment,and other behaviors that seriously affect the health of their employees.Such being the case,upholding human rights in multinational companies has been widely discussed throughout the world.Also,whether multinational companies should assume human rights responsibilities has become a big concern and a new topic that attracts scholars at home and abroad.Basic concepts of responsibilities that multinational companies have in protecting human rights has been analyzes and related theoretical foundations have been introduced in Chapter one.Chapter two elaborates on the current situation of human rights violations by multinational companies in three aspects,namely human rights for laborers,for residents,and for consumers.Chapter three provides a detailed analysis of the current dilemma of regulating the human rights responsibilities of multinational companies both as an international community and as a country.Specifically,insufficient provisions of traditional international law and softlaw,inadequate regulations of international organizations,and restriction rules of both home and host countries concerning assumed human rights responsibilities will be presented in this chapter.Chapter four describes the development and reflection on the mechanism of human rights responsibility of multinational companies.By analyzing international regulation,domestic regulation and the company's internal self-discipline,the author puts forward several approaches to urge multinational companies to assume their human rights responsibilities.
