Since the UK's modus operandi in international relations is based on reinforcing the US hegemonic world order, the rise of China creates the prospect of a new and unfamiliar environment,as well as an array of new dilemmas for the UK.How will London react to growing Chinese power and influence in global politics, and how will the US shape the development of SinoBritish relations? These questions are addressed through the lens of IR theory, with an analysis of the UK's alignment toward or away from China on the one hand, and toward or away from the United States on the other hand. This study will take into consideration the realms of global governance, security, trade, and economic issues.First,I examine the underlining structures upon which the US-UK and China-UK relations are built and the way in which they intersect. The article will end in a discussion as to how desirable and feasible it will be for the UK to simultaneously juggle both bilateral relations. |
