Demand Of Housing Apaptions For Aging-in-place In China

With the current severe aging process in China,the pension problem for the Chinese elderly has become the main focus in the society.Among them,the existing housing conditions for the elderly are generally inadequate and full of housing safety hazards,which challenges the promotion and conduction of aging in place.Based on the background of current aging socitety,the conditions of housing environment,as well as the impact of housing on the physical and mental health of the elderly,the paper study the objective demand and subjective demand of housing adaptions for aging-in-place in China.The paper deeply studies the factors affecting the demand of housing adaptions for elderly aging-in-place and impact mechanism of various factors.First of all,the paper analyzed the current status of elderly aging-in-place in Beijing based on the existing pension policy introduced by the Beijing government,actual housing situation in Beijing,and the pilot project of housing adaptions implemented in Beijing.The study shows that the the current situation of housing conditions is seriously aging in Beijing and the elderly generally lack the awareness of housing adaptions for aging-in-place which leads to limited desire for housing adaptions that benefit the quality life for the elderly living at home.At the same time,the elderly people doubt the housing adaptions process,which leads them abandon the housing adaptions.All these have seriously affected the quality of life for the elderly living at home.Secondly,based on the connection of falls and the physical and mental health to the elderly,and the fact that fall accidents are the most dangerous to the Chinese elderly.The paper studies focus on the impact of housing conditions on the elderly falls and launches a survey on the demand of housing adaptions of the elderly in Beijing.Based on the survey,the paper empirically analyzed the objective demand of housing adaptions of the elderly in Beijing.The results show that walk inconveniently and having the history illness related to falls are the major causes for the elderly falling indoors.Besides,the space and the ground conditons of bathroom and bedroom in the house are the factors which caused the elderly fall.Thirdly,the paper empirically analyzes the subjective demand of housing adaptions of the elderly in Beijing.The results show that currently understanding of housing adaptions to the elderly in Beijing is limited.The price and the quality of housing adaptions,and the credibility of the service providers have all impact on the willingness of the elderly to participate in the housing adaptions.Further,the paper comprehensively analyzes the personal,family structure,the cognitive conditions of the housing adaptions to the elderly,and the housing conditions of the elderly to analyze the various factors which influence the elderly's willingness to implement the housing adaption.The results found that the age,the history of falls,the degree to awareness of housing adaptions,the decision-making power of household expenditures,have impact on elderly willingness to have housing adaptions.In additon,the housing conditions of the last time of housing renovation and whether there being thresholds,handrails,rescuers,and elevators,etc.in the house have the impact on elderly subjective demand.Last of all,based on the study conclusions,the paper proposes some government policies for future development of housing adaptions for the elderly aging in place in China.It suggests that the policy should be designed to meet different demands of the elderly and to encourage and support for new housing to strengthen the performance suitable for the elderly.
