In recent years, the issue of national images has been greatly focused. As China's influence gradually increases in the world, the issue of China's national images has attracted enormous scholars' interests. However, there is no definite conclusion on the issue.Based on the fourth data of the Asian barometer, this paper uses multiple regression analysis and multi-level linear models to analyze the factors of citizens' attitudes toward China in East and Southeast Asian countries. The results indicate that:(1)Three East Asian countries,Southeast Asian continental countries, and Southeast Asian maritime countries have shown different attitudes towards China. The three East Asian countries and the Southeast Asian continental countries tend to choose a balanced strategy which is to identify with both the United States and China, while the Southeast Asian maritime nations take a one-sided approach, approaching the United States and alienating China.(2)Economic factors and cultural factors are positively related to the evaluation of China. The high degree of economic dependence, the more interests of bilateral trade, the similar culture, and the stronger Asian identity, lead to a more positive evaluation of China.(3)Neorealism is no longer applicable to the evaluation of relationships between China and East Asian and Southeast Asian countries.Neoliberalism can explain the current East and Southeast Asian patterns, and constructivism is suitable for predicting the future relations and evaluations between China and East and Southeast Asian countries.
