| In recent years, the phenomenon that shortage of migrant workers occurs.A short-term job has become the typical feature of employment trend of migrant workers. We are curious about why migrant workers are incline to do a short-term job. What are the real reasons for skipping from job to job?Could migrant workers achieve the goals of safeguarding lawful rights and interests, raising wages and benefits by job-hopping?In conclusion, this essay tries to explore two main questions. One is about the reasons for short-term trend employment, another is that why this employment pattern is less likely to improve salaries. In this study,non-participant observation method and semi-structured interview method are used as qualitative research methods.Conclutions are drawn from field investigation that there are two main reasons of hiding behind the frequent job-hopping phenomenon, which can be divided into economic factors and non-economic factors.Economic factors are depicted by explaining fundamantal purpose, for sake of higher salary,of the migrant workers. The main reason of job-hopping is to find a new job whose wage is much higher than the present counterpart. What’s more, this can be regarded as performance of low satisfaction of the present job and factory. However, the problem is that as time of looking for a new job pass by,and there is no sourse of income during this period, personal savings lost rapidly, which leads to high cost of resignation. In addition, due to a variety causes, migrant workers are less likely to abtain a real high salary, that is they should contribute more labor to the factor with only a slight of higher pay.On top of that,non-economic factors are described by three dimentions.Firstly, when a factory that pays higher salaries is not available,or wages of two jobs are almost equal, migrant workers are incline to leave the one whose treatment is worse.Secondly, when feeling tired on both physical body and mind, migrant worker have great potential to leave the job to regain the right to be free from factory.Lastly, resignation is for personal development, which allows migrant workers to pick up skills when conducting job-hopping.However,neither economic factors nor non-economic factors are detrimental to migrant workers’ expectation of high salaries.First of all, resignation means high cost, with taking a new job without a high pay.If doing a subtraction operation,we could likely find that live beyonds their income. From this point of view,short-term employment adversely affects migrant workers’ pay in the field of factory. Also, frequent resignation can not ensure steady growth of personal income.Second, one can not abtain either a good treatment or a considerable salary in merely one factory, meaning that working in a shorter labor-hours plant bonds to have fewer opportunity to facilitate salary for migrant workers.Besides, resigning frequently is harmful for accumulation of working age. Also lacking skills leads to the result that migrant workers are not qualified to be offered high wages so that they are forced to stay at the same social status.Therefore,short-term is not conducive for migrant workers to improve salaries in labor-intensive factories. |
