Aim:Since high intensity interval training?HIIT?has a significant effect on aerobic and anaerobic exercise performance, more and more researchers started to apply it on all people instead of only athletes.HCO3-is one of the buffering agents.Studies show that exogenous supplementation of sodium bicarbonate can prevent fatigue and improve motor performance by improving the body's alkaline reserve. This then improves the ability of blood or muscle to absorb hydrogen ions. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore whether the supplementation of NaHCO3 can improve the effect of HIIT on both aerobic and anaerobic exercise performance by increasing the level of alkali in blood.Method:20 healthy college-age male participants were randomly assigned to either a chronic sodium bicarbonate group?SB?or a placebo group?Pla?.Each group consisted of ten subjects. Both groups completed 6 weeks of HIIT?3 days per week?.This study set every 3 weeks to be a different stage of training intensities. The protocol of the first one was to finish 30 s@100%MAP+30 s 70%MAP*5 times*4 sets in training days with 1 min interval between each set.As for the second one,the intensity was only changed to 40s@100%MAP+20 s 70%MAP.During this 6 weeks of training,SB group ingested 0.2 g/kg BM NaHCO3 in every training day while the other group ingested the placebo. All of the test was conducted three times.Blood samples were taken before and after the first training, the third training in the third week and the last training to measure the serum[HCO3-].Three 30 s Wingate tests and 5 km time trail test was conducted before,in the middle and after the training and the supplementation interventions.Excel and IBM SPSS were used to record and analysis all the datas.Results:1)Serum HCO3-level of SB group was significantly higher than Pla?p<.05?both before and after the exercise;2)relative PP in WAnT between two groups showed very significant differences after 6 weeks?p<.01??relative AP and PD%had no differences between groups?;3)Lactate clear rate and the lactate clear velocity after 10 min of WAnT had very significant differences between groups in the post-test?p<.01?;4)HRR10%of SB group in WAnT after 6 weeks showed very significant improvement?p<.01?,and Pla group improved significantly?p<.05?;5)Completion time of 5km-TT and the mean velocity in 5km-TT between two groups after 6 weeks of intervention had very significant differences?p<.01?,plus,heart rate immediately after 5km-TT of SB was significantly lower than Pla?p<.05?,other indexes of this test showed no significant differences;6)HRR5 in 5km-TT showed no significant differences between two groups.Conclusion:NaHCO3 ingestion during6 weeks of HIIT can improve the lactate clear rate after anaerobic exercise, thus,to some extent at least, further promote the effect of HIIT on aerobic and anaerobic performance...
