The thesis intends to understand the tools to conduct international relations which are associated with the concept of soft power.Soft power needs certain issues to enhance the national image such as woman empowerment by British Council in the case of Nepal.It is a known fact that the countries are derived with the sense of completing the national interest in which the important part is to understand the process that is utilized by the state to enhance its national power.The thesis utilizes the concept of ‘social constructivism' in order to generate power with the support of knowledge and create a good national image abroad.The thesis implements Goffman's ‘Framing Analysis' that gets combined with the logic of Soft Power to create a real image of power.In order to generate soft power,states socialize foreign state with the help of cultural relations organization,a body which is an extension of state's bureaucracy designed to work abroad.The thesis heavily utilizes multiple theories while the focus remains on just two concepts within the discipline of the International Relations.The thesis intends to understand British Council by comparing it with other organizations as well as to study the events they organize in detail.The thesis intends to understand the value of documentation and how power could be generated by utilizing the issue of woman empowerment,the thesis also focuses on the role and importance of people with higher amount of social capital in the socialization process.It intends to understand the role of in-group members and how it affects the identity of the group.The thesis utilizes a single case but is dedicated to understanding the tool that is being used to generate power.In the thesis,there are altogether five chapters-The First Chapter establishes a brief introduction to the research question,literature review and explains the hypothesis.The chapter introduces the concept of framing,soft power,and social inclusion.It is a known truth that states are dedicated to complete the national interest but the real question is what and how they are able to acquire the desired outcome.The Second Chapter focuses on theoretical analysis of British Council and understands its importance in issues such as soft balancing,normative persuasion,socialization,social constructivism,framing and in-group thinking and feminism.As the thesis focuses on tools,great variety of theories and writers are connected to the main thesis.The chapter provides a theoretical base for the third chapter which plays the crucial role in the thesis,it provides the idea on in-group thinking and how domestic members are utilized by a foreign agency to spread its viewpoint.The Third Chapter speaks about Nepal and looks in depth to Woman of the World festival to understand the effort British Council role in Women's Empowerment as well as provide a glimpse of English and Digital Girls' Education which is comparatively less known.The third chapter goes in depth to understand the Nepali society and challenges it faces;these issues are very important because Nepali society to some extent is the targeted community where the cultural events take place and project Great Britain as a benevolent country.The third chapter provides a clear picture of Nepali and South Asian society utilizing storytelling,panel discussions and arts tackle the problems.The Fourth Chapter analyze other cultural relations organization that is present in Nepal and it explains why British Council is in its crucial position as well as try to detect what are the challenges other agencies face to improve their images.The chapter proves the hypothesis that the British Council is influential due to its better outreach in contrast to any other cultural relations organization and also looks at the efficiency based on survey constructed by British Council to enhance its structure continuously.The Fifth Chapter provides a short summary,recommendation,and final remarks and finally concludes the thesis.
