With the deepening of researches on Chinese education,reading teaching has received more and more attention in each grade.However,because of external factors like economic and geographical environment,there are problems in the reading teaching of Chinese in rural primary schools in Shuangliu County,Sichuan Province and have led to a generally low level of student reading.This not only affects students' understanding and learning of Chinese,but also has a negative effect on the learning of other subjects.To this end,the Shuangliu Education and Research Training Center conducts primary school Chinese "theme-based reading" teaching practice in the county to raise the overall reading ability and level of primary school students in Shuangliu County.In order to better practice Chinese "theme-based reading" teaching in in rural primary schools in the later period and provide help and guidance for the Chinese"theme-based reading" teaching practice in Shuangliu County,this paper has surveyed the "theme-based reading" teaching in rural primary schools in Shuangliu County through four samples-Shuanghua Primary School,Huanglongxi Primary School,Huangshui Primary School,and Gongxing Primary School with the use of questionnaires,interviews and case analysis.The study has found that rural primary schools in Shuangliu County have enriched reading activities both inside and outside the school,developed school-featured"theme-based reading" teaching materials and explored several main forms of"theme-based reading" teaching after several years of Chinese "theme-based reading"teaching practices,which have improved the efficiency of reading teaching in classrooms,raised students' reading quantity and achieved research experience and achievements worthy of spreading.However,there are also problems,such as the"theme-based reading" curriculum plan is not systemic,the chosen of "theme-based reading" teaching contents is not scientific,the lack of guidance and evaluation for the implementation of "theme-based reading" teaching,and so on.This paper,on the basis of conceptual analyses on theme,"theme-based reading"and "theme-based reading" teaching,has analyzed the characteristics and value of"theme-based reading" teaching.Based on this and focused on problems of Chinese"theme-based reading" teaching faced by rural primary schools in Shuangliu County,this paper has summarized the causing factors from the aspects of schools,teachers,and families.It further puts out the following suggestions,hoping to provide assistance for"theme-based reading" teaching in rural primary schools:formulates the "theme-based reading" curriculum plan according to student development characteristics;absorbs the local folk culture to expand curriculum resources of "theme-based reading";designs"theme-based reading" teaching process according to students' cognition rules;integrates the "double-basic' education into "theme-based reading" teaching to make it both instrumental and humanistic;and promotes internalization of "theme-based reading" by mutual assistance within and outside classes.
