Education is the foundation of a strong country. The improvement of rural education level in my country plays a key role in the improvement of China’s overall education level.Mathematics teaching as an important part in the education teaching affects the overall education level directly. The compulsory education in elementary mathematics curriculum standards(2011 edition)requirements that attached great importance to the cultivation of mathematical thinking in mathematics teaching. Then, the content of mathematics teaching in elementary school "solving mathematical problems by formulating equations"is a favorable material for cultivating students’ mathematical thinking. In order to better cultivate students’ mathematical thinking, this study investigates and analyzes the current teaching situation of "solving problems with equations" in a rural primary school in Anhua County. The purpose is to understand the actual situation of teachers and students in the teaching and learning of equation application, and put forward corresponding teaching suggestions and teaching cases according to actual problems, and provide teaching reference for front-line teachers. The study was conducted through a variety of research methods such as literature, interviews and questionnaires to find out more about the current teaching of "equations to solve problems" in rural primary schools in three aspects:students’ cognitive and emotional level, their ability level, and teachers’ teaching and students’ learning methods and measures. The survey and analysis revealed the following findings:Firstly, students have a positive and enjoyable attitude towards the learning of ’equations to solve problems’ and are more proficient in the methodological steps of problem solving.Secondly, there are still some difficulties in practical application:students are accustomed to arithmetic methods and have little awareness of the use of equation methods;they do not have a firm grasp of the basics of equations and are not able to solve problems in practice;they have poor reading skills and do not learn equations in an appropriate way. Finally, rural teachers lack inductive and categorical summaries in teaching the application of equations, incomplete penetration of equation ideas, limited educational and teaching resources, and low motivation for personal professional growth.According to the problems found in the research, the following suggestions are proposed for teachers:to cultivate good learning habits in teaching;to analyze the equal relationship in equation appropriately using mathematical tools;to strengthen the connection between mathematics and life;to strengthen forward thinking training to reflect the superiority of equation method;to practice solving equations,to cultivate good inspection habits;and to use information technology to improve professional quality. In addition, specific teaching case clips are given for teachers’ lack of induction in teaching, insufficient penetration of equation ideas, and the handling of the three problems of students’ error-prone points in the process of problem solving,in the hope of improving teaching reference for the majority of front-line teachers.
