The concept of function is the core content of mathematics teaching and it is also a compulsory course for middle school students in various countries.However,due to the abstraction and complexity of this concept,students often have difficulties in understanding when they begin to learn.Therefore,the concept of function is an important and difficult point in middle school teaching,to which enough attention should be paid.Not only are students having many obstacles in learning the concepts of functions,but in history,the concept of functions has not been easy.In more cases,it is more difficult to face various difficult twists and turns.The understanding of mathematicians in history is inspiring for student.Based on in-depth study of the original materials and research materials,we analyze the thoughts and methods of related mathematicians and present the origin and creation of tis thought process.Starting from the history of function concept,combining the actual situation of students,introducing mathematics historical materials in the teaching process,allowing students to understand the process of the occurrence and development of function concept,thereby we can enhance students' understanding of the concept of function.In addition,this paper conducts an empirical research on the understanding of functions among junior and senior high school students by means of questionnaire surveys.We designed comparative experiments in junior and senior high school respectively.Through comparison,we found that the introduction of historical materials can deepen student's understanding of the concept of function and enhance the teaching effect.
