In the past decades, with the economic and social development, people's living standards have been greatly improved. At the same time, some phenomena have slowly entered people's horizon and are receiving more and more attentions. For example,in the context of rapid economic development, domestic violence is increasingly attracting people's attention.Domestic violence is related to women's health and closely related to social human capital. The idea that the husband and wife should be well matched in social and economic status has existed for a long time.People tend to believe that a well matched marriage will be a good marriage. How t he premarital economic conditions affect domestic violence is the main concern of this article. At the same time, the study of how premarital economic conditions influence domestic violence also has important theoretical and practical meanings. This article discusses the impact of premarital economic conditions on domestic violence from both theoretical and empirical perspect ives.In theoretical part, this article firstly embeds two variables, premarital economic conditions and domestic violence into the family non-cooperative game model, and constructs a family game model that includes premarital economic conditions and domes tic violence.Through the analysis of the model, the theoretical hypothesis of this paper is drawn: the premarital economic conditions will influence the husband's violence against his wife through bargaining power channels or extract-resource channels. After theoretical analysis, the paper builds an econometric model of premarital economic conditions and domestic violence, and uses the third wave of Chinese Women's Social Status Survey to conduct empirical analysis. The main conclusions are:(1)For each type of domestic violence, larger inequality of premarital economic conditions will increase the probability of domestic violence.A well matched marriage does reduce the wife's risk of being exposed to domestic violence.(2)Through channel analysis,it is learned that the bargaining power channel explains the effect of a considerable amount of pre-marital economic conditions on domestic violence. The extract-resource channel explained the effect of women born richer on domestic violence. The woman has better economic conditions before marriage, the more economic communication with the origin family after marriage and the more contribution to the family.Husband may force the woman to extract economic resource from wife's family by the means of violence. The views and values are not significant for explaining the role of premarital economic conditions on domestic violence.(3)As for mental violence, the channel of bargaining power also explains the impact of premarital economic conditions on mental violence. And the extract-resource channel explains why the woman's economic condition is better while suffers more mental violence. The views and values are not the main influence channel of premarital economic condition on mental vio lence.(4)As for physical violence, three channels have little effect on the physical violence of men born richer. The bargaining power and extract-resource play important roles in the influence of premarital economic conditions on mental violence. Therefore, this paper puts forward some suggestions such as reducing the gap between rich and poor and optimizing marriage.Increasing the economic status of women improves their bargaining power. In order to protect women's rights and interests,we should improve legal system. We will guide public opinion and improve social attitudes. Finally,we should improve social support networks to help women who are experiencing domestic violence.
