Block game is a high quality material and effective carrier for early childhood education, which has an irreplaceable education value. It is extremely important for the development of children's mathematical abilities and spatial skills. This study aims to explore the impact of modeling topic building blocks on the mathematical abilities and spatial skills of children aged 5-6,and reveal the intrinsic mechanism in the improvement of building blocks of children's building blocks from the perspective of mathematical learning and development. The study used a mixed experimental design of 2(time:pretest and posttest)× 2(group:experimental group and control group),randomly selected 61 children aged 5-6 in Changsha S-kindergarden,divided into experimental group(n=31)and control group(No data missing samples,n=30).In the experimental group, the children were subjected to the thematic block games of 15 times for a total of 8 weeks. Before and after interventions,by using cognitive scales of mathematics ability(Mathematical competence test scale third edition Chinese version A,Test of Early Math Ability-?,referred as TEMA)and spatial skills(The Wechsler Preschool and Primary Seale of Intelligence-IV,referred as WPPSI)were measured in the experimental group and the control group. The method of repeated measurement analysis of variance was used to analyze the scores of the mathematical abilities and spatial skills scores before and after the intervention to examine the effects of thematic block game interventions. The data showed that the scores between experimental children's growth in mathematical abilities and spatial skills was extremely significant(P<0.001),there was no significant increase in mathematical abilities(P=0.37)and spatial skills(P=0.25)in the control group, and there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in mathematical abilities and spatial skill scores(all P<0.001).In addition,cross-lagged regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between children's mathematics abilities and spatial skills. The data showed that children's ability to measure space before and after can significantly predict the abilities to test before and after mathematics(all P<0.001),but the abilities to test before and after mathematics cannot predict spatial skills. The results show that thematic block games can promote the development of mathematical abilities and spatial skills on children aged 5-6,and spatial skills are a significant predictor of the development of mathematical abilities.Researcher suggests that we should pay attention to the role of block games, give young children more opportunities for it,effectively use building blocks as teaching aids for mathematics education, develop children's mathematics experience, and pay attention to the teachers'ability of observing and guiding the game.Researcher suggests that kindergartens should increase the opportunities for children's block building, ensure the duration of the block games, effectively use building blocks as teaching aids for mathematics education, develop children's mathematical abilities and spatial skills, and pay attention to the teachers' ability of observing and guiding the game.
