"Sudu" is a traditional means of Chinese education.It's a kind of reading method adopted by private tutors who required the students to read repeatedly without understanding for establishing language sense,reciting classics and accumulating cultural deposit.Such method of reading had been the dominant in China for thousands of years in the history until the new culture movement when the Vernacular Chinese replaced classical Chinese and the domination of classics was shaken.Though this method of reading,which focuses on recitation without understanding,has become less popular,it is never abandoned completely.In modern time,Japanese has inherited such way of reading when they are learning Chinese,and name it "Sudu".In the 1990s,Mr.Wang Guicai in Taiwan had promoted reading of classics.At the same time,Ms.Chen Qin of Primary School Affiliated to South China Normal University has started the practice of "Sudu" for classics in Chinese teaching.The traditional method of reading "Sudu" has gained the attention of people again.Since then,"Sudu" of classics shows up in modern classes with new connotations.Over 70 primary schools have established Sudu classes across China.Changsha Bocai Meixi Primary School is one of primary schools with practice of Sudu of classics.The author has investigated the practice of Sudu of classics in the school based on the author's own practice and rethink in Bocai Meixi Primary School,with using the research approach "general-to-specific-to general",and combination of theoretical research(literature review)and empirical research(questionnaire and interview).The existing problems in the implementation of Sudu of classics in the school are rationally examined,in order to provide references to Sudu of classics for more schools and teachers.Based on the related theories,this paper is divided into four chapters:Chapter 1 is the review and teasing up.In this chapter,the origin and related concepts of "Sudu" are identified.The basis of implementation of Sudu of classics is described from theoretic base,policy support and practical requirement.Moreover,the value and significance of the establishment of Sudu of classics are also outlined.This chapter serves as a comprehensive description of the theoretic and practical bases for the implementation of Sudu of classics.Chapter 2 describes the pursuit and exploration.Based on Changsha Bocai Meixi Primary School,the author has investigated the status quo of implementation of Sudu of classics in primary school Chinese teaching,described the basic conditions for the implementation of Sudu classics in the school,and analyzed teaching cases of Sudu of classics in the school.Chapter 3 reveals the embarrassment and difficulties.With questionnaires and interviews,deep understanding for the students,teachers and parents is obtained.The data is analyzed from four aspects(awareness,implementation,teaching situation and evaluation system)for getting insight into the existing problems during the implementation of Sudu of classics in Chinese teaching in Bocai Meixi Primary School.Solutions and countermeasures are included in chapter 4.In this chapter,rethinking about the investigation in Bocai Meixi Primary School is made,in the hope of offering feasible suggestions for the implementation of Sudu of classics from four perspectives,i.e.,removal of misunderstandings,arranging classes scientifically and reasonably,optimizing teaching strategy and reforming evaluation system.The practice and rethinking about Sudu of classics in primary schools is far less than perfection.More exploration and researches for Sudu of classics from experts and front-line Chinese teachers are expected for carrying forward the classics and excellent Chinese culture from generation to generation.
