Each person has a range of social identities, the same identity can become differentially salient depending on the experimental or social context.Previous studies have shown that level of social identity salience was the highest in the combined priming condition compared with in-group or out-group priming alone.Current research adopted the group referent effect paradigm to discuss the influence of social identity salience on the group reference effect based on social context and different priming.Study 1 investigated the influence of social identity salience on the group reference effect under the different social situation. The research consisted of two experiments.Experiment 1 was to examine the influence of social identity salience on the group reference effect of Han and Tibetan when they were in an ethnic majority situation. In Experiment 1 Tibetan and Han Chinese participants demonstrated low ethnic identity salience and no the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Experiment2 was to examine the influence of social identity salience on the group reference effect of Han and Tibetan when they were in an ethnic minority situation. In Experiment 2 Tibetan and Han Chinese participants showed high ethnic identity salience and the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Study 2 investigated the influence social identity salience priming on the group referene effect based on social context. The research consisted of two experiments.Experiment 1 was to examine the influence social identity salience priming on the group referene effect based on an ethnic majority situation. The result indicated level of social identity salience of Han Chinese participants was the highest in the combined condition compared with in-group or out-group priming alone, and shown the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Level of social identity salience of Tibetans was significantly improved in the three priming conditions, and shown the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Experiment 2 was to examine the influence social identity salience priming on the group referene effect based on an ethnic minority situation. The result indicated level of social identity salience of Han Chinese participants was not improved in the three priming conditions, and no the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Level of social identity salience of Tibetanswas significantly improved in the three priming conditions, and shown the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Through the analysis of two research results, current research mainly obtained the following conclusions:(1)Social identity salience have an influence on group reference effect, the more prominent the social identity salience, the greater the group reference effect.(2)Tibetan and Han Chinese participants showed high ethnic identity salience when they were in an ethnic minority situation, and the advantage effect of ingroup processing.(3)Level of social identity salience of Han Chinese participants was the highest in the combined condition when they were in an ethnic majority situation, shown the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Level of social identity salience of Tibetans was significantly improved in the three priming conditions when they were in an ethnic majority situation, and shown the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Level of social identity salience of Han Chinese participants was not improved in the three priming conditions when they were in an ethnic minority situation, and no the advantage effect of ingroup processing.Level of social identity salience of Tibetans was significantly improved in the three priming conditions when they were in an ethnic minority situation, and shown the advantage effect of ingroup processing.
