In recent years,China attaches great importance to the national fitness programs and has gained remarkable achievements.Square dancing,as the most popular fitness sport currently in China,follows this trend and adds fresh vitality into nationwide fitness programs.Greatly supported and promoted by Chinese government,the square dancing has gradually transformed from vulgar folk activities into fashion sports and also spreads to overseas,becoming a new way by which international friends can learn about Chinese culture.This paper uses literature review,questionnaire survey and interview to understand the spread of square dancing domestically and internationally.It also uses the method of content analysis to discuss the overview of mass media's coverage on square dancing,the role mass media has played and the effect they have made on the spread of square dancing.The fashion-based marketing and promotion of square dancing could be an effective reference when it comes to the issue of promoting Chinese fashion sports culture.This paper makes a further reflection on the promotion of Chinese fashion sports culture,analyzing the existing problems while putting forward some countermeasures.This paper argues that the square dancing is not widely known in China.However,it gets more attention by foreign people.In the course of the spread,the square dancing cannot develop to this far without the support of the government,citizen organization,enterprise,social organization and the mass media.In order to make the square dancing more fashionable,these subjects take measures from many aspects such as dance movement,music,participants.The mass media plays a vital role in square dancing's dissemination.It constructs a propagation platform for the square dancing so that the unique charm and role of the square dancing can be disseminated and displayed.With the promotion of China's international status and international influence,the desire of foreign people to understand Chinese culture will also increase.Within this context,make use of square dancing as a carrier of fashion sports will help people to promote the dissemination of Chinese fashion sports culture.However,fashion sports culture in China still has some shortcomings.The subject of communication is single and lack of cultural attribute.The single communication path and the uncertain positioning of audiences.In view of this situation,this paper provides the following suggestions.Pay attention to the combination of multiple subjects and multiple channels.Enrich cultural connotations.Clear the position of communication.Learn from other countries' experience and improve communication strategies.
