Since the reform and opening up,China's urbanization has developed rapidly. In recent years, with the introduction of new urbanization strategies and the implementation of measures, the level of urbanization has reached an unprecedented rate.At present, new town extension has gradually becoming the important means and an effective path for the new urbanization. The rapid development of the new town has many influences, such as expanding the scope of towns, changing the urban-rural distribution and the appearance of urban and rural areas, increasing the level of urbanization, and changing urban-rural social structure and urban-rural relations.Weihai is a coastal city in Shandong province,it extends the new town relying on the development zone, which is typical in our country. After more than 30 years of development, the level of urbanization in Weihai has rapidly increased.By the end of 2016,the urbanization rate of permanent residents reached 65%.The changes of urban-rural social structure have always been the focus of sociology. In the past,it is mostly analyzed from the "time dimension" on sociology. In fact, social development has both time and space dimensions. Therefore, when studying social structure,we should combine both of them. This paper summarizes the basic characteristics of social space by combing the theory of social space.Taking Weihai as a case, this paper uses literature and field research methods to study the new town expansion's influence on the structure of urban-rural social space. This paper is divided into six parts, which are introduction, research design, the practice of changing the urban-rural social spatial structure in Weihai, relatively divided urban-rural social space before 2000,gradually integrative urban-rural social space after 2000,as well as summary and outlook. In changing the urban-rural social spatial structure, new town extension is the important practice, and it promotes the urban-rural social space restruction. The study found that new town extension has affected the space actors and their social activities.Rural traditional living forms are gradually disappearing, and urban-rural living spaces are both vertically concentrated. The daily life of urban-rural residents breaks the restrictions on geography and identity. The mobility of residents increases, and the urban-rural social interaction space is gradually expanding. The material living standards of urban-rural residents have been continuously improved, and the urban-rural gap has been narrowing. The imbalance of equity space has been gradually improved and has been paid more attention to urban-rural equity. The concepts of urban-rural residents tend to be homogenization. At the same time, the urban-rural relations hidden behind the spatial structure has been changed.Relatively divided urban-rural social space is gradually integrative after 2000.Based on the analysis of reality, this paper concludes that in the future, the developments of urban-rural social space should achieve the space integration eventually and maintain the space justice, which is guided by the unitary urban-rural view and based on fairness and justice.
