Chapter 10 is the conclusion and outlook. It summarizes the main conclusions of this paper, points out the innovations, problems, and looked into the future research direction.According to the research mentioned above, this paper comes to the conclusion that:(1) Along with the social-economic transformation, urban residential space has been experiencing significant differentiation from the aspects of internal living environment, surrounding service facilities and residential differentiation with neighborhoods. And it also takes on some characteristics such as the residential differentiation of various social groups is very prominent, urban residents are differentiated both between communities and in a single community, the communities’ service facilities are also differentiated along with the residential differentiation, and residential differentiation takes on the trends of homogeneous agglomeration and heterogeneous isolation. (2) Overall, the separation of residents’workplace and residence is very significant. Self-service stores such as supermarkets have become the main shopping places for basic necessities, the main shopping places for medium goods such as clothing have the trend of moving to regional shopping centers, but residents are still inclined to buy advanced goods such as household appliances in city center, and online shopping has become an important shopping channel. Own home, communities and activity places nearby communities are the main places for residents’daily leisure activities. The social communicating space takes on certain distance decay regularity:the farther away from home, people communicate less. And the daily activity space of different social groups and residents from different communities are greatly different. (3) Most urban residents only have some or no community attachment, which reflects that community attachments of urban residents are generally missing in the period of transition. Residents’community attachments are correlated significantly with their social attributes, residential attributes, social communication and life satisfaction, but correlated little with income, residential location and living expenses. Residents of Nanjing are satisfied with housing conditions and transportation, but less satisfied with community physical environment and service facilities comparatively. Factors such as household registration, education, sex, household income, housing property, community location and type, etc. influence the diverse dimensions of community life space satisfaction at different levels. New town with beautiful natural environment and downtown with convenient service facilities are common ideal residential places to residents of Nanjing, and residential preference is related to spatial distance and life experience. (4) Institutional factors, behaviors of local government, economic factors, revolutionary development of ICT and transportation system, social and individual factors are main factors which impacts the formation of urban residents’ life space in the period of transition, meanwhile subsystems of life space relates and impacts each other, and finally prompt the formation of life space together. (5) Developing mixed habitation, building community public space suitable for social communicating, promoting equalization of community service facilities, optimizing service facilities of low income communities, distributing residential and industrial space reasonably, and promoting sharing of public activity places are effective paths to solve related problems about life space in the period of transition. The innovations of this paper are as follows:(1) Put forward analytical framework of urban residents’life space in the period of transition based on a comprehensive perspective which is composed of residential space, daily activity space and residents’perception and evaluation. (2) Research the characteristics of urban residents’life space in the period of transition systematically from the levels of general features of Chinese cities and case study of Nanjing, baced on the analysis of residential space and daily activity space, and analyze residents’ perception and evaluation of life space. (3) Reveal the formation mechanism of urban residents’life space in the period of transition comprehensively and deeply from the aspects of institution, local government, economic development, society and individual, analyze the interaction mechanism of subsystems, and put forward the comprehensive formation mechanism of urban residents’life space in the period of transition.
